Tips for a Holistic Wellness Routine
As a Mindset Expert, Speaker, and Coach, my focus is on how we can incorporate self-care into our daily lives in easy and enjoyable ways. Our minds often resist hard and boring tasks, so by considering this, you are much more likely to do it. This is all about setting yourself up for success rather than feeling like you need to add a million other things to your never-ending to-do list and then feeling like you’ve failed.
Here are six ways you can incorporate self-care into your daily life to support your mental health and overall wellness.
Mini Mindful Moments Mindfulness doesn’t always require long meditation sessions; integrating mini mindful moments throughout your day can make a significant impact on your mental clarity and overall wellbeing. Consider how you can practice mindfulness in short bursts throughout your day, for example, 2 minutes just being while you drink a cup of tea or 5 minutes focusing on your breath between meetings.
Self-care Stacking Self-care stacking involves combining self-care practices with habits and activities you already do. For example, could you repeat empowering mantras whilst you do your skincare routine, or could you think about one thing you’re grateful for from the day as you brush your teeth in the evening? The aim is to stack it with something you already do so it seamlessly becomes part of your daily routine.
Connect to Your Senses Connecting to your senses is a great way to bring yourself back to the present moment, especially if you’re experiencing stress. This might be lighting your favourite candle and closing your eyes for a minute to really take in the scent. You could eat something delicious and really take in the flavours and textures. When you’re doing your skincare routine, you could really notice how the products feel on your skin.
Monthly Challenges Sometimes introducing self-care into your routine can feel quite overwhelming, especially if your life already feels very busy. Instead, consider setting yourself monthly challenges, where you focus on one self-care habit for a month. This will give you a sense of achievement once you’ve completed the month and feel more manageable than introducing something forever. You could journal for 5 minutes every day for a month or do some form of movement once a day for a month. Getting others involved in your monthly challenges can really help you to stay accountable!
Mindful Walks Mindful walks allow you to combine the benefits of mindfulness and physical activity. Next time you are on a walk, try bringing your attention to yourself as you walk and notice the sensations in your body. You can focus on different body parts and how they feel as you take each step. Walks in nature are great, however, if that’s not possible, don’t let that stop you. You can do this while you walk to the shop, to the station, or while you’re on your lunch break.
Morning Rituals Create a morning ritual that sets a positive tone for the day. You may like to do the same routine every day or have a set amount of time where you choose one or two things to do depending on your mood. This might include reflecting on how you feel and what you need that day, a short meditation, setting intentions, a nourishing skincare routine, or dancing to music that puts a smile on your face. Use this to connect to yourself before your day begins.
Incorporating self-care into your life is incredibly supportive for your mind, body, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Hopefully, these tips have given you some ideas of how you can do it in a way that is easy and enjoyable. Remember that you deserve to rest and you are worthy of investing this time into your wellbeing.
